Call for Nominations - 2015 CCDS Board of Directors
The Canadian Centre on Disability Studies (CCDS) is a not-for-profit, consumer-directed and university-affiliated national organization dedicated to research, education and knowledge mobilization on disability issues in Canada and abroad. CCDS is committed to promoting full and equal participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of society – locally, nationally and internationally. With its cross-disability focus inclusive of mental health, CCDS seeks partnerships with the disability community, corporate sector, academe and government with a vision of enhancing the lived experience of persons living with disabilities, and their partners and families, in communities throughout Canada and abroad.

CCDS is seeking individuals with a broad range of backgrounds who are interested in serving on our Board of Directors. CCDS’ Board operates under a Policy Board model. The functions of the Board are policy governance, strategic planning, financial monitoring, and community relations.

Prospective board members should also have a broader view of the community and the world we live in, and be committed to our mission, building partnerships and growing the organization.

The President and Executive Director work together in leading CCDS in conjunction with the Board of Directors, committees and staff.

Prospective Board Directors are expected to:
  • Provide stewardship of the organization while prioritizing CCDS’ interests.
  • Help promote the organization’s overall goals, values, and core knowledge, as well as global disability themes.
  • Participate in one of the Board Committees: Governance, Program, Nominations, Human Resources, Endowment Fund, Finance.
  • Raise the organization’s profile amongst a wide audience, including funders.
  • Actively participate in disseminating information about CCDS, including project outcomes, lessons learned, and emerging trends in disability research.
  • Participate in and promote CCDS-sponsored events, including planning events, Board meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and other public events.
Board members must hold active membership in CCDS. A person appointed or elected as a Director has 60 days from the election to become a member. Terms are up to three years.

Nomination forms follow this notice. All nominations must be returned to the CCDS office by no later than Monday, July 13th, 2015.

A slate of candidates will be compiled and ballots distributed to all CCDS members in good standing in August 2015. The 2015 Board of Directors will be announced at the Annual General Meeting on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Winnipeg.
