SDHHS Appoints New Executive Director
Saskatoon – Dale
Birley, the President of the Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services,
Inc., the province’s only agency providing an assortment of services to persons
living with deafness, has announced the appointment of a new Executive
Director, starting November 1, 2013. The appointee, George Schinarakis, a
current resident of Toronto, has extensive experience in the field of deafness
and management. “He is well-suited for our purposes with his background and
training in marketing, seeing that SDHHS had just launched a major marketing
strategy initiative. With him at the helm, we can see SDHHS reaching out to
many more Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing persons throughout the province.”
Mr. Schinarakis possesses a Master’s degree in Deaf
Education from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. and a Business
Management Certificate from George Brown College, where he also worked as a
project manager in accessibility for Deaf students. The outgoing Executive
Director, Roger Carver, who is retiring after four years of service to the
SDHHS, is pleased with the selection, saying the similarities in their
backgrounds would “ensure a smooth transition for the organization and enable
it to stay on track in its strategic direction.”
