DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING PROGRAM –INSTRUCTOR/TUTOR Hourly

The Centre for Excellence in Foundational Learning and the Learner Success Services department at Bow Valley College are looking for a positive and patient individual who will work as an Instructor to teach to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in the Centre for Excellence in Foundational Learning and work as a Tutor for the same DHH students in the Learner Success Services area. With both the roles, these are  Hourly paid position with varying hours.

As an Instructor you will have the opportunity to instruct students who generally have some understanding of ASL but may not have reading or writing communication skills in the language of their country of origin or in English. Communication in the classes will be exclusively in American Sign Language (ASL) although text and pictorial communication will also occur.

As a Tutor in the Learner Success Services you will be providing tutorial assistance for students in small groups with the same students. There will also be an opportunity to provide individual tutorial assistance for students in your instructional areas of expertise.

You will use your demonstrated strengths to work collaboratively to enhance the quality of the courses with the intent of increasing the scope of the program.

Requirements:

• Fluency in American Sign Language is a requirement.

• ASL as a natural language is a preference.

• A Bachelor of Education degree is highly recommended and Alberta teacher’s certification is a distinct asset.

• Instructional and tutor experience, preferably in an adult setting

• Strong computer skills required

• Online instruction skills an asset

• Specialized expertise in Language Arts is an asset

Closing Date: Open until a suitable candidate is found.

Note: This is an hourly paid position with varying hours. Some evening hours maybe involved depending on student enrollment.
