LEADING WAY WITH THE CLOSED CAPTIONING

For hearing-impaired Blue Bomber fans, technology will help ensure they don’t miss a thing at Investors Group Field this season.

Gunars Butkans, vice-president of the Manitoba Deaf Association, said fans who are deaf or hard of
hearing often don’t know what’s been announced during games. “With the introduction of closed
captioning, they can share the excitement,” he said. “We’re very appreciative of this additional service
since it provides an equal opportunity for all.”

Investors Group Field will stand out as one of the leaders across the country by offering closed captioning on its two massive video boards, something that older stadiums have a hard time doing due to older technology.
“We are thrilled to offer closed captioning and are very pleased that Polo Park Hearing has come on board to sponsor this service for our hearing-impaired fans,” said Fin Paterson, vice-president and director of
sales for the Winnipeg Football Club.

As owner of Polo Park Hearing Centre, Leslie Holden feels it’s important to give back to the community.

“What a perfect opportunity to be able to help people by having closed captioning,” she said. “The fact that it’s one of the first in Canada makes it really, really exciting.”
